The top rail must have a height of at least 42 inches in accordance with 1910.29(f)(1)(ii)(B), and the handrail’s height must be between 30 and 38 inches in accordance with 1910.29(f)(1)(i) (as measured at the leading edge of the stair tread to the top surface of the rail).

On all portable ladders, the open space that must exist between the side rails must be a minimum of 11.5 inches (29 cm). A landing area must have a perimeter that is at least 7 inches (18 cm) and no more than 12 inches (30 cm) high (30 cm). When the step-across distance is more than 12 inches, a landing platform is required to be installed (30 cm).

OSHA does mandate that every person operating a forklift get training on the 1910 OSHA standards pertaining to both the vehicle and the workplace. 178(l)(3) and have their performance assessed by a trained trainer in accordance with 1910. 178(l)(2)(ii) and (iii).
